cisco certification- faqs' for geeks

It undergoes the process of certification which is essential for people not only working on Cisco devices, but also for all working on any internetworking devices. More or less, all networking device manufacturers follow the comman standards, in designing their devices.
Cisco is the world leader in the internetworking devices manufacturing. As they are following the open standards, all their protocols have resemblance with those of most others.
Cisco offers certification in Routing and Switching, Secuirty, Voice and Wireless domains.
For all these certfications, CCNA (Routing and Switching) is essentially recommended, but not mandatory.
If you are doing the cerification, out of passion, you are free to start with any of them. But, if you are dong for career enhancement purpose, it is recommended to follow the recommendation.

Cisco CCNA-Routing and Switching was formerly called as just CCNA.

A certfication can give an edge over others. Also, certfication is the process making one understand the working, uniqueness and maintenance of their products. Certification is not required for handling the cisco (or any other manufacturers') products. But, a certified person can handle safely, with comfort and ease. Also, the company can't take the risk of making a layman (one with little/no knowledge about the product) to handle such costly products.
